About Us
Facilities Services is responsible for the physical care, maintenance, and improvement of Georgetown University’s built environment, from historic brick buildings to modern infrastructure. The department brings together skilled trades professionals, project managers, and facilities specialists united by a shared commitment to preserving the character of Georgetown’s campus and delivering reliable, high-quality service to the university community. Every project, repair, and improvement is an investment in the spaces where Georgetown’s mission happens.
Key Responsibilities:
- Buildings & Structures encompasses the Carpentry, Roofing, and Masonry shops: skilled trades professionals who maintain and preserve the structural and architectural integrity of Georgetown’s campus buildings. Their work protects both the function and the historic character of facilities that define the university’s identity. From brick repointing to structural repairs, these teams keep Georgetown’s buildings sound and standing.
- Building Maintenance Services serves as first responders across campus, addressing light maintenance needs quickly and reliably. The team handles day-to-day work including bulb replacements, ceiling tile replacements, and appliance repairs within residential spaces. Their rapid-response presence keeps facilities functional and minimizes disruption for occupants across the university.
- Small Projects Department addresses facility improvements and repairs that fall outside the scope of Capital Projects, serving departmental requests as well as self-identified needs related to infrastructure, safety, and aesthetics. The team also supports small projects within Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) space. Quick-turn, practical, and responsive, this group bridges the gap between routine maintenance and major construction.
- Calcagnini Contemplative Center is a property managed by Facilities Services in Bluemont, Virginia, operated in unique collaboration with Georgetown’s Mission and Ministry office. Facilities Services maintains the physical facility to support the retreat and contemplative programming that Mission and Ministry delivers to the university community. This partnership reflects the broader role Facilities Services plays in enabling Georgetown’s mission beyond the main campus.
