Danelle Chavez
Danelle Chavez is the Executive Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) for Georgetown University overseeing lab safety, radiation safety, environmental health, occupational safety, fire safety, and construction safety. She is an environmental and occupational health professional with 15+ years of professional experience. Since joining Georgetown in the fall 2016, she has continuously improved EH&S programs and reduced hazards through creative solutions. This includes launching the web-based EHSA safety management system and assisting laboratories in the research and purchasing of engineering controls to minimize hazards.
In her previous role as senior environmental and occupational safety manager, Danelle served as a subject matter expert for laboratory, environmental and occupational health and safety by overseeing EH&S programs, making recommendations and working with groups to maintain compliance and establish pathways for a safer workplace. In previous positions, Danelle has been instrumental in developing and updating EH&S safety programs such as laboratory assessments and campus-wide medical surveillance initiatives. She holds a Master’s of Public Health from the University of Colorado and a B.S. in Environmental Science from the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
