Hilltop Updates
Water Line Break Impacting Reiss Science (April 2026)
- Start: Thursday, April 2
- End: To Be Determined
- Event: A water line break has led to a water intrusion in the basement and surrounding exterior area of the Reiss Science Building.
- Impact: We ask that community members avoid the area until the facilities team has resolved the issue.
Planned Lower Level Renovation at 500 First Street (April 2026)
- Start: Tuesday, April 7
- End: Approximately Thursday, May 7
- Impact: Loud noise is expected during the first week of demolition, starting April 7. There are no anticipated utility outages. Construction crews will access the Lower Level through the garage.
Leavey East Bridge Closure (November 2025)
- Start Date: November 26, 2025
- Masonry work on the bridge (cast stone panels and brick on columns) is scheduled to be complete by mid-June, 2026.
- End Date: TBD
- Event: Leavey Center East Bridge, as well as Tondorf Road and the pedestrian walkway underneath the bridge, have been immediately closed for repairs.
- Impact: During this closure, pedestrians may enter through the following entrances:
- Other Leavey Center entrances:
- From the north side, enter via the elevator 5 lobby (accessible entrance)
- From the east side, enter via the stairwell near the bridge and Byrnes Hall
- From the south side, enter via the Leavey Mid-Campus Terrace near Hariri and Regents Hall
- Through the connecting floor of Regents Hall:
- From the east lobby on Tondorf through the second floor (accessible entrance)
- From the south lobby through the first floor (accessible entrance)
- Accessible pathways can be found on the Georgetown campus map.
- There will be no pedestrian vehicular traffic permitted under the bridge on Tondorf Road.
- Other Leavey Center entrances:
Stair Closure at ICC (April 2026)
- Start: Wednesday, April 22
- End: TBD
- Impact: The steps between Reiss and ICC are currently closed due to safety concerns. Pedestrian egress remains available through a clearly marked path utilizing temporary fencing and directional signage. Project teams are currently in an exploratory phase to finalize the scope of work, so a firm completion date has not yet been established.
New Research Building Generator Replacement Project (May 2026)
- Start: Monday, May 18, 2026
- Preparation work — Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19
- Generator demolition using grinders and other equipment — Wednesday, May 20 through Friday, May 29
- This work will be noisy.
- Concrete pad demolition with hammer drills against the slab — Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5
- This work will be noisy and may also generate some vibrations.
- After demolition, typical construction noise will take place until the end of the project in October 2026.
- End: October 2026
- Impact: As part of the New Research Building Generator Replacement Project, there will be intermittent noisy work at the New Research Building and surrounding areas through Friday, June 5. Work will be limited to 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will adhere to campus no work dates.
Planned Hazardous Material Abatement in Blommer Library at Reiss Science Building (April 2026)
- Start: Approx. Wednesday, May 20, 2026
- Impact: Planned asbestos-containing material (ACM) abatement work will take place in the Blommer Library.
Planned Drone Operation at Southwest Quad (June 2026)
- Timing: Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
- Impact: This operation will support gutter cleanings and inspection on the Southwest Quad. Flights will be conducted at an altitude of 400 feet. To ensure safety, GUPD will be present during the flight. Please note that any cancellations due to unforeseen factors will be communicated to the relevant authorities immediately.
Planned Drone Operation at Southwest Quad (June 2026)
- Start: Thursday, June 4
- End: Approx. Wednesday, June 10
- Impact: Old North Way is currently closed between Old North and New North for excavation work. The stairs from Old North Way to the Harbin Patio are still accessible. As is the tunnel underneath New North. Community members should avoid the area. For ADA access to Healy Hall, please enter through the Maguire ground floor entrance.
Planned Cooling and Ventilation Outage in Building D (June 2026)
- Start: Saturday, June 6, 6 a.m.
- End: Sunday, June 7, 2 p.m.
- Impact: During this outage there will be no cooling and no ventilation. Work with hazardous materials is prohibited. Freezer rooms will be cooled with portable air conditioning units for the duration of the outage.
Planned Steam and Domestic Hot Water Outage in Med-Dent Building (June 2026)
- Timing:
- Monday, June 8, at 6 p.m. to Tuesday, June 9, at 6 a.m.
- Tuesday, June 16, at 6 p.m. to Wednesday, June 17, at 6 a.m.
- Impact: There will be no steam or domestic hot water available in the Med-Dent Building during these windows. Autoclaves will be unavailable for use. Alternative autoclave locations are available in the Pre-Clinical Science Bldg. (GCD-7J), Basic Science Bldg. (303) and Building D (240).
Planned Heating and Cooling Outage in the New Research Building (June 2026)
- Start: Friday, June 19, 5 p.m.
- End: Sunday, June 21, 12 p.m.
- Impact: There will be no heating or cooling available on the west side of the New Research Building during this period. The contractor will provide spot coolers as needed in critical areas.
Planned Hazardous Material Abatement in McNeir Auditorium at New North (June-July 2026)
- Start: Monday, June 29, 2026
- End: Friday, July 3, 2026
- Impact: Planned asbestos-containing material (ACM) abatement work will take place in the McNeir Auditorium. The work area will be sealed/contained and monitored throughout the abatement process.
Yates Field House HVAC Renovations (February – May 2026)
- Start: Monday, Feb. 9, 2026
- End: May 2026; Normal Parking Resumes Tuesday, March 31, 2026
- Event: Construction on a renovation to the HVAC system serving the McCarthy Pool in Yates Field House.
- Impact: Two parking spots in Lot Y will be blocked off through March 31 for construction staging. Signage will be placed on site alerting parkers of the closure. Contractors will start work at the exterior of the building, move into mechanical work, and then perform work in the pool area. Construction noise and vibrations can be anticipated as demolition and installation takes place. Specific impacts will be communicated as logistics are confirmed.
Planned Outage Impacting Davis Performing Arts Center, Healy Hall, Maguire Hall, White-Gravenor Hall, Walsh, Village A, LXR and Nevils (August 2026)
- Start: Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 7 a.m.
- Impact: There will be a planned domestic hot water outage impacting hot water access in Davis Performing Arts Center, Healy Hall, Maguire Hall and White-Gravenor Hall. Additionally, during the outage period, steam service (heating) will be unavailable in Copley Hall, Davis Performing Arts Center, Healy Hall, Lauinger Library, Maguire Hall, Village A, White-Gravenor Hall, Walsh, LXR and Nevils. This outage is in support of the Healy and Copley Lawn Utilities Project and has been scheduled between summer and fall academic sessions to minimize disruptions to academics and operations.
- End: Friday, August 14, 2026, at 5 p.m.
Building D Maintenance and Energy Efficiency (February – July 2026)
- Start: Monday, Feb. 2, 2026
- End: Friday, Jul. 17, 2026
- Event: Scope of work includes upgrading all controls to digital controls, air balancing, add occupancy sensors and replace thermostats in lab spaces, fume hoods and offices and install new VAV boxes. The end result for occupants will be more reliable temperature and humidity conditions, more consistent and improved ventilation, and fewer interruptions to research from temperature and ventilation issues.
- Project Update: There have been several minor developments that have been added to this project in order to improve occupant safety and energy efficiency. As a result, some room numbers have been added or removed from the initial construction plan. See the updated floor plan here.

Gervase Interior Construction (November 2025 – February 2026)
- Start Date: November 3, 2025
- End Date: March 2026 (*note: this end date was previously February 2026, but was updated in mid-Nov. due to project delays)
- Event: Beginning on approximately Monday, Nov. 3, an interior construction project will begin to address maintenance needs of Gervase Hall. The anticipated completion date for this project is March 2026.
- Impact: Work will take place from approximately 9 a.m.-4 p.m. During this time, contractors will be utilizing fencing to direct foot traffic away from the building while maintaining access to Library Walk. The bike storage rack will be closed and all bikes will need to be removed by their owners.
Capitol Campus Updates
Edward Bennett Williams Law Library (Spring 2025 – Spring 2026)
- Start Date: May 19, 2025
- End Date: March 2026
- Event: Starting Monday, May 19, contractors will begin construction work for a roof replacement project for the Williams Law Library building. The scope of work includes the replacement of the penthouse roof, main roof, atrium roof, foyer roof, and the ground level terrace roof. This work will take place during business hours (approximately 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
- Impact: The Law Library will remain open, but there will be noise, vibrations and rerouted walkways.
- Update (09/02): Starting Friday, September 12, contractors will begin construction work on the foyer roof and the ground level terrace roof. Work hours for this phase of the project are 10 p.m. to 7 a.m, and work is anticipated to be completed by Saturday, September 20. This work will generate some noise, smells, and vibrations inside while in progress. During these dates, the Williams Law Library building will close each day at 10 p.m. The Law Library’s Hours page provides the most up-to-date information on the Williams Law Library building hours.
- Update (11/17): In order to allow contractors to work on the ramp and the portion of the terrace directly in front of the main library entrance, the Williams Law Library building will close early for winter break starting on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025. Building access will remain available through Dec. 17, which coincides with the end of the exam period. The Law Library is expected to reopen on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026. We encourage all library users to plan ahead for physical materials and complete borrowing activities before the early closure. Requests that require the Law Library to borrow books from other libraries (WRLC, ILL) should be made by December 5 to ensure that they are processed and arrive by December 17.
EHNG Green West Side Improvements (May 2026)
- Start: Monday, May 18, 2026
- End: Early June 2026
- Event: Site improvements will occur at the Capitol Campus near the Eleanor Holmes Norton Green. This work includes demolishing and salvaging existing concrete pavers, pouring new concrete pavement and reinstalling bike racks with new concrete footers. We anticipate work will continue through the first week of June.
- Impact:
- Walkways around the Eleanor Holmes Norton Green may be impacted; however, at least one North/South traversing pathway will remain open at all times.
- Existing bike racks will be removed and reinstalled in new locations, which will affect availability during the work.
- Activities involving concrete pours, broom finishing and daily debris management may generate noise.
