Janice Szymanski

Assistant Vice President of Planning and Capital Projects
BIO: Janice Szymanski is an experienced leader and registered architect with over 18 years of proven success in facilities management and capital programs. She has overseen operations spanning 28 million square feet and managed high-stakes capital design and construction programs totaling more than $2.8 billion. Janice brings a strong background in both the private and public sectors, fostering deep project management expertise in educational environments and consistently delivering large-scale projects on time and within budget.
Most recently, she served as Chief of Facilities and Capital Programs for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), one of the ten largest public K–12 school systems in the country. There, she led a team of over 650 staff responsible for delivering high-quality capital projects, facilities management operations, and long-range facility planning services.
Prior to her role at FCPS, Janice served as an executive program manager in the Capital Design and Construction Division of the District of Columbia Department of General Services, where she led teams delivering major capital projects for the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS).
Her work with FCPS and the D.C. government has given her extensive experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, education leaders, and community members. In addition to her public-sector leadership, Janice has worked as a licensed architect and has designed numerous institutional facilities throughout the Greater Washington area. Janice is thrilled to be joining the Georgetown University Team.
