Our Operations & Responsibilities

The Energy Management team operates and maintains the University’s energy management systems to ensure continuous and effective temperature and humidity control in University buildings.

When there are new projects or buildings, we review mechanical, electrical, and plumbing documents to ensure compliance with University standards and compatibility with the in-place systems.

Our division has initiates and monitors projects like the water detection system, freeze stat system, and fuel oil tank monitoring system.

Our Team

Kevin Turner, CEM, CMVP

Director, Engineering and Utilities

Kevin Turner earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park’s Clark School of Engineering and is currently pursuing an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. During his time at Georgetown, Kevin has served as an Operations and Maintenance Engineer for the Department of Energy and Utilities and led the Controls and Energy Management team responsible for the campus building automation systems. He joined the Georgetown University team in 2016.

Adam Rogers, P.E.

Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Adam Rogers earned a master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. His career has largely been as a fire protection engineer for the Smithsonian Institution. He has overseen the fire protection and life safety aspects of design and construction of numerous projects throughout the Smithsonian’s 20 museums and multiple research centers. Significant projects included the National Museum of American History core renovation, the National Museum of Natural History renovations and the National Native American Veterans Memorial. He joined the Planning and Design team in 2019.

Mengistu Dessalgne

Integration Engineer, Engineering and Utilities

Mengistu Dessalgne Earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from University of District of Columbia.

Mr. Dessalgne works for Georgetown University as Utilities Analyst from October 1987 to September 1999:  Performs Technical data and fiscal analysis work regarding the monitoring and forecasting of utilities usage for the purpose of achieving efficient and cost effective energy use by the university. Maintain utility tariffs, Prepare periodic and special reports and analyses data for preparing and administering current and future utilities budgets. Manage over $15 Million-dollar Energy Budget and over 4 Million Operating budget. Starting September 1999 he also works as A Network Administrator:

Manage Local Area Network, Building network control systems, Electrical data collecting infrastructure and Servers, he provides utilities information system engineering and server management services to the University’s Utilities and Energy Programs division to ensure reliable and cost effective network and infrastructure systems. Ensures designs for new building technology to be compatible with Current software and hardware. Reviews operations of new energy network system installation for compatibility of future plans.

Mr. Dessalgne has also been certified by the leading industries in software and hardware.
