East Campus Summer Renovations

Recent Project Updates

Will share when available.

Project Overview

Over summer 2025, we will be conducting renovations across East Campus including to LXR, Nevils and Walsh. Please refer back to this website for project updates.

Fire Alarm System Replacement (June 2025 – Feb. 2026)

We will be replacing the existing fire alarm system throughout LXR starting in June 2025 running through December 2026. The project will be conducted in phases by floor. The majority of the project will be conducted in electrical and mechanical rooms as well as common corridors. Parts of the project will require entry into student units, and ample notice will be given prior to entry.

Utility Replacement Project in the LXR Courtyard (September – November)

As part of the Healy and Copley Lawn Utility Replacement Project, starting in September 2025, we will construct a platform along the sloped landscaping area at the driveway from Prospect St. This platform will house temporary equipment needed to provide heating to LXR, Nevils and Walsh while the new utility pipes are being installed.

During this time, fencing will line the driveway between the gates at Prospect St. and the courtyard to block off construction equipment needed to support this project. Occupants will not be able to walk or drive in this area during the construction. Pedestrian access will remain through other existing paths.

Work hours will be from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday with noisy work beginning after 8 a.m.

Please reach out to the Project Manager, Alex Berley, if you have any questions or concerns.

Occupancy Sensor Installation (June 3 – July 1)

We will be installing magnetic sensors in the doors of each room to support existing occupancy sensors, which will manage HVAC usage. This work promotes energy conservation by limiting heating and cooling usage when rooms are empty.

This work is taking place while rooms are unoccupied this summer. Work hours will take place from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please reach out to the Project Manager, Alex Pavelka, if you have any questions or concerns.

Water Conservation Work (Summer 2025)

We will be renovating the sinks, toilets and urinals in the restrooms of LXR to reduce water consumption. We will be closing two restrooms per floor at a time, leaving the remaining floors open during the renovation work. Signage will be posted on the closed restrooms, with the available floors noted.

Please reach out to the Project Manager, Alex Pavelka, if you have any questions or concerns.

HVAC Renovations on the Loyola and Nevils RoofTop (June – August)

The rooftop work at LXR and Nevils will result in the installation of new Outdoor Air Handlers and Energy Recovery Ventilators, as part of a larger project to improve energy efficiency and upgrade building systems for long-term reliability.

This work will temporarily impact ventilation and cause minor water disruptions, for which building occupants will be notified separately.

Please reach out to the Project Manager, Alex Pavelka, if you have any questions or concerns.

Crane Lift (Saturday, July 26; Saturday, Aug. 2; Saturday, Aug. 16)

We will be conducting crane lifts to lift equipment onto the LXR and Nevils roofs in support of the above project. The lifts will be surrounding the building on various streets to support the installation of four new Energy Recovery Ventilators. This work will replace old equipment with new, aiming to conserve energy across our campus.

During this time, the Loyola roof will be closed.

Crane lifts will take place on the noted Saturdays, from approximately 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., resulting in the following partial street closures:

  • July 19th: 3500 block of Prospect Street (CANCELLED)
  • July 26th: 1200 block of 35th Street
  • August 2nd: 1200 block of 35th Street
  • August 16th: 3500 block of N Street

Please reach out to the Project Manager, Alex Pavelka, if you have any questions or concerns.

Occupancy Sensor Installation (June 3 – July 1)

We will be installing equipment to support new occupancy-based HVAC controls in every unit in Nevils to be able to communicate with the door switch, thermostats, and window switches.

This work is taking place while rooms are unoccupied this summer. Work hours will take place from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please reach out to the Project Manager, Alex Pavelka, if you have any questions or concerns.

Water Conservation Work (Summer 2025)

We will be renovating the sinks and toilets in the restrooms of Nevils to reduce water consumption. We will be closing two restrooms per floor at a time, leaving the remaining floors open during the renovation work. Signage will be posted on the closed restrooms, with the available floors noted.

Please reach out to the Project Manager, Alex Pavelka, if you have any questions or concerns.

Please reach out to the project manager, Rembe Rodriguez, if you have any questions or concerns.

Spagnuolo Gallery Ceiling Renovation (July – Early August)

We will be converting the Spagnuolo Gallery Ceiling spaces to a black box ceiling this summer. This work will take place alongside planned HVAC work in the Art Department’s office suite on the ground floor of Walsh.

Work hours will take place from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. from Monday through Friday.
