Lauinger Library Renovations
Project Overview
This project will renovate and expand the Pierce Reading Room in Lauinger Library. The comprehensive renovation will include a mix of informal study areas and small group collaboration rooms. The renovation will expand the Pierce Reading Room to the south of the building and will introduce new windows with views towards the Potomac. This project also includes a new Digital Lab with a large format video wall for interactive learning and special events.

Construction Impacts
Phase I
Phase 1 work will relocate the Tech Services offices from the third floor to the former Woodstock Library on the lower level. Some construction noise may occur during work hours. The stairway that connects Lot 9 to Village A will be closed. Pedestrians traveling from lot 9 to Library Walk will either need to go up the steps next to Village A at Prospect St. or go around the east side of Lauinger Library.
Phase 1 begins on Monday, August 12 and is expected to be completed in January 2025.
Phase II
Phase 2 will include the renovation and expansion of the Pierce Reading Room. Phase 2 is expected to begin in January 2025 and expected to be completed in December 2025.
Pierce Reading Room will be unavailable for use during the duration of Phase 2.

Work Hours
Work hours are 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. Noisy interior work will start at 5 a.m. and will stop at 9 a.m. Noisy exterior work will occur from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and may be heard outside the library and in nearby buildings.
