#EnergizeGU 2022
Energy efficiency is at the heart of everything we do. From upgrading over 70,000 lightbulbs across campus with environmentally friendly LEDs to installing smart-meters to track energy usage, we are working every day to build a more energy-efficient future for all Hoyas.
As part of our Jesuit, Catholic mission to “Care For Our Common Home,” we have embraced energy-efficiency as a commitment and collaborative effort. Energy-efficiency opportunities are everywhere across our campuses, and everyone can play a role.
Join us as we celebrate how far we have come and where we are going. See below to find out how you can participate and check out past projects. Let’s #EnergizeGU!

Energy Hackathon
(October 2, 2022)
This past October, ENGIE (Georgetown’s Energy Partner) hosted an Energy Hackathon where students pitched ideas to a panel of student and staff judges on how to promote energy conservation in the Georgetown community and reduce our carbon footprint.
The winning team (Catherine Dell’Olio CAS‘25, Charvee Dua CAS‘25, and Jack Louchheim SFS‘24) designed the sticker shown here to help promote behavioral change around saving electricity by turning out the lights and unplugging devices. These stickers were then distributed in dorms and over 220 students installed them on their dorm room doors. Stickers will continue to be available in dorms across campus.
The winning teams also won the opportunity to direct $5,000 in prizes to the non-profits of their choice and a member of the winning team earned an internship with ENGIE to help implement their idea.
